Atlanta doeee

RLA season has begun! In the spring, Chi Phi hosts Regional Leadership Alliances for 5 different areas across the US: Southwest, Texas, Midwest, West Coast and Northeast. We just had the Southest RLA and had over 130 participants from Florida, Virginia and Alabama. Always great to see leaders from all over come to a program with the common goal of improving their local chapters. Great leadership program filled with excited young minds, ready to make change in their respective chapters.

Following RLAs, I visit Emory University and was that one for the books. Beautiful campus, not the first time I've been able to see the campus in full force. However, my visit overlapped with Atlantas SnowMagedon14! 3 inches fell grin Atlanta and the city shut down. People were stranded, food was bought out at all stores, and some people had to walk 10 miles in snow to get home because cars were abandoned on the freeway. An unreal site and a great experience of the hand of brotherhood always extended. The brothers of the Gamma Colony put me up for a night and saved me from either getting stranded on the freeway or having to drive what normally would take 40 minutes to get home, it took people 4+ hours. Thanks again guys, you were very gracious hosts and I appreciate your hospitality. Pretty funny to see such a major city crippled by a little unexpected weather.

OH! IO!

Back to ohio and excited because I was prepared for when proud fans yell "OH!" I will respond with "IO!" Not quite #GoBeavs! Or even a LOB (s/o Sea Chickens) but it's cool at least for the Midwest. Got to fly directly into Columbus this trip and instantly was smacked in the face by the brutal chilliness of the Midwest Tundra! My phone reads 23* out but feels like 5* haha. I knew it was going to be cold but didn't expect it to be this cold.... I cruise to enterprise, a surprisingly longer trek then I had expected and was off to Delaware, Ohio , home to Ohio Wesleyan and Chi Phi's Alpha-Chi chapter. Beautiful house, hands down one of, if not, the coolest house I have visited this far. 3 story mansion that dates back to the 1800s. Vaulted ceilings that are remarkable and a theatrical spiraling staircase that leads you to the rest of the historic marvel. Great photos line the entry way and framed history that is 5 times my age. The chapter house is in unbelievable condition and even more remarkable are the documents that enrich and display the great history of The Oaks. A house that dates back to pre-Civil War: two very wealthy sisters lived kiddy corner from each other and had a tunnel under the street to each other's mansion for safe and convenient travels.
Snow has fallen over the nights and a slower commute to the university than anticipated but the light snow blows around enough to keep the roads drivable. A fun campus with a lot of energy and life, Ohio Wesleyan has been a nicely kept secret until you visit the buzzing campus. Cute small college town with a handful of restaurants and a few more specialty shops line Sandusky Drive.

Columbus was great like in th fall but instead of being 60* and sunny it was 3* and sunny. I didn't know what to do with the cold and especially the wind chill that made it -15*. Brr brr. It was brutal, tough to walk the 200 yards to my car with my face stinging from wind burn and my eyes watering. I enjoyed a classic meal from Dirty Franks Hot Dog Palace. Yummmm! Until next time, #GoBuckeyes I mean Beavs!

Post Winter Break

What a blast of a Winter Break. I got to visit home (which now is shared between  Portland and Seattle) but got to split time between both and see family, friends, and more!! I'll abbreviate the break with bullet points and pictures:

-Won 2 fantasy football leagues: Player Haterz where I won the Tebow Trophy and the Chi Phi National Office league where I won the belt!
-Got to drive #BlueMagic over break, but the amp is dead so not as cool without the obnoxiously loud subwoofer.
-Mr. Danny Meier and Mrs. Sara Meier!
-Lost a nail biter in the Holiday Classic 3.0.
-Sat in Hayden's great seats and some friends caught us on TV!
-Started a new tradition of crabbing before opening presents on Christmas Morning.
-Celebrated G$'s 16th bday at Disneyland and visited the Slocums!
-Brought in the New Year in Seattle!

Ramping up for a Blurred Spring Term

I am currently preparing for a long travel trip in the next couple of months: I start out with a quick week long trip to Ohio to visit Ohio Wesleyan and THE Ohio State University. I come back for a week and right off my flight I educate undergraduates at a Regional Leadership Alliance Conference in Atlanta for the weekend.  Then I go to Boston for a two week trip where I’ll visit Boston University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, UMASS-Dartmouth, and University of Rhode Island; directly fly to San Antonio to help with the Texas RLA and back to Atlanta for a week. Then I head north to Pennsylvania to visit Lehigh University, Lafayette College, and Stevens Institute of Technology. Hopefully I’ll get a weekend in Philly and another in New York, but I still need to sort out the details. Right after that trip I go to the Northeast RLA in Allentown, PA. Then I hopefully head to Indiana University where I will be there for a week to help recruit and setup our next colony. I have a trip to Arizona State and Binghamton University to round out my travels for the spring. It will be crazy, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I am pumped to visit all of these different chapters a because I get to experience a variety of cultures, extreme weather tundras, and types of people. I hope to go to as many sporting events as i can but that all depends on my schedule; hockey, basketball, softball and more!
